FOX "News" Caught

This is a video of a fox news producer (can anyone identify him?) telling his camera crew at the Mackinac Republican conference (of the infamous Rudy Ferry ride) how to avoid getting shots of the crowd that had gathered in support for Ron Paul.

This should prove to any thinking person that FOX News is nothing but a tool of the Neocon-Establishment Republican propaganda-machine.

Despite FOX's obvious political leanings, how can they justify deliberately and intentionally ignoring what many would conclude to be a story in and of itself (that a relative no-name managed to get more supporters on the ground than all of the big-money, focus-group, manufactured front-runners combined)? Is it truly more newsworthy to show "people eating and crap"? Given the obvious $-price-$ of every second of airtime on a national cable news network, and Ron Paul's more than obvious internet, monetary and FOX news telephone poll support, why would they intentionally shy away from covering what they KNOW their viewers want to see?

This should become the political story of the next few days.

Call and email news websites, newspapers and TV stations. This is blatant censorship.
And spread this message.

Thanks!

Ron Paul on Tonight Show with Jay Leno

Ron Paul is scheduled to appear on The Tonight Show Jay Leno, Tuesday night October 30th with guests Tom Cruise and The Sex Pistols. It provides Dr. Paul with a great opportunity to present his message to a lot of people who may not be familiar with him. Encourage your friends and family to watch the show.

There's also a grassroots push underway to get him on The Late Show with David Letterman. To request him on Letterman, email them at cbsmailbag@aol.com

Media Update

A lot has been published in the last day or two. First, videos have been posted of Dr Paul in N.H. registering for the primary, and singing the document "for Liberty". There is some great discussion of foreign policy and monetary policy. There has also been a growth in the amount of daily press Dr Paul gets, as reported on the Daily Paul. Images of the beautiful brochure that the campaign will send out in the mail to N.H. voters have been released. I've seen these up close, and they are beautiful. There was also a nice article in the Hill, that discusses the fact that Dr Paul is attracting Democrats in N.H., and expanding the base of the Republican party.

An Interview With Jim Forsythe

Since Jim is too modest to post this, I will. To me, the most interesting news is his plan to run for an NH State House Seat in 2008. You've got my vote. We need more people like you and Ron Paul in office!!!

What a Great Morning

So I wake up this morning to find out that Dr Paul has gotten 7.4% in the latest N.H. poll!!! This puts him in front of Huckabee and Thompson! I think the increasing poll #'s are a function of the new radio adds that have been aired, and the hard work our folks have been doing canvassing. As we continue to reach more and more houses canvassing I expect these numbers to go up more. Let's get working!!!

The second piece of good news is that the campaign just deposited some office donations (non on-line) to the tune of around $400,000! So the grand total jumped to $2.2M, and we are in easy striking distance of $3M, and we could actually make the agressive $4M goal if people chip in. Please consider making some small sacrifices in your life (e.g. don't go out for dinner), and make a small donation. It's an investment in your future prosperity!!!!

Finally, Dr Paul was on MSNBC talking about the cost of the war. The MSM is finally talking about the huge $ cost of this war - $8,000 for every man woman and child. So for my family, it is costing $24,000. I would gladly spend that if I thought it was making us more secure, but in my opinion, and in the opinion of many smart people like Dr Paul, it's making us less safe.

Ron Paul, M.D. Talks Health Care at Dartmouth

Paul stated, "Politically, I believe in freedom of choice." When Paul's time at Dartmouth Medical School came to a close, the students responded by giving him a standing ovation. His message was simple: "Under the Constitution, government shouldn't be in medicine."

See here for the full article.

Ron Paul Rakes in the Money in N.H.!

From Campaigns and Elections:

"What may come as a surprise to some is the second highest fundraiser in New Hampshire. U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, who has cultivated an avid libertarian following in the state, received $46,146 in campaign donations from New Hampshire voters. He out-raised McCain, who took in $33,167 and Giuliani, who raised $31,706."

Well, it doesn't surprise me! Our meetup group did a fantastic job in the meetup competition, which is probably about half of this figure. What is also interesting is how broad the donations were, coming from all over the country as shown on the Atlantic.

And New Hampshire had the highest donations per capita of any state!!!!! Way to go New Hampshire! Let's do it again this quarter.

Who Do You Trust To Pay Down the National Debt?

Right now, our national debt stands at $9 trillion and is growing at a rate of $1.44 billion PER DAY. Most, if not all, of our income taxes go towards paying the INTEREST on the national debt. Government spending is out of control, prices are going up, and the value of the dollar is at an all time low. Our economy is on the verge of a financial crisis, and if things don't change soon, it will be left to our children and grandchildren to pay for our government's fiscal irresponsibility.

Recently, a lot of figures have been tossed around about third quarter fundraising. Most news reports have been fairly positive about Ron Paul's $5.1 million take, however, the true picture is still being distorted. News coverage has focused on how much money each candidate raised in the third quarter, however this number is pretty much meaningless going into the fourth quarter. If you raised $30 million, but spent $30 million, you're still broke. You don't actually have any money in the bank to spend on advertising and other expenses in the months leading up to the primaries. It's simple economics. You cannot spend what do not have. If you do, that's called DEBT.

So, when the media focuses on amount of money raised, Ron Paul ranks 5th, just behind McCain:

Q3 Raised
Romney = $18,396,719
Thompson = $12,828,111
Giuliani = $11,624,255
McCain = $ 5,734,478
Paul = $ 5,258,456
Huckabee = $ 1,034,486

These are the numbers the MSM reports most often. They want people to think that Ron Paul is still on the outside looking in. However, the truth is, Ron Paul is in much better shape than they would like to admit. The true measure of financial stability is NOT total money raised, it's cash in hand minus debts. This is the amount of money that a candidate actually has avaiable to spend on advertising and such going into the fourth quarter. To find this information, go to OpenSecrets.org:

For each candidate, I calculated the Total Cash In Hand Minus Debts to get the NET Cash in Hand:

NET Cash in Hand

Giuliani = $16,480,570
Thompson = $ 6,443,312
Paul = $ 5,443,667
McCain = $ 1,757,937
Huckabee = $ 603,491
Brownback= $ 94,654
Hunter = $ 82,742

Keyes = -$ 247
Tancredo = -$ 185,524
Romney = -$ 8,133,483

It's also interesting to look at how much debt each of the candidates accumulated:

Total Debts

Paul = ($0)
Brownback = ($0)
Keyes = ($12,876)
Huckabee = ($47,810)
Hunter = ($50,000)
Giuliani = ($169,256)
Tancredo = ($295,603)
Thompson = ($678,432)
McCain = ($1,730,691)
Romney = ($17,350,000)

So, now what does all this have to do with the national debt??? Well, in my opinion, I think the way a candidate runs his campaign is a pretty good indicator of how he would run the country. So, let's take a look at each of the contending candidates.

Romney is by far the most fiscally irresponsible of the bunch, running up $17.35 million in debt. He doesn't care though, he's already written himself a check for $17.4 million, and I'm sure he'll write a few more before all is said and done. Without his own bank account, who knows where his campaign would be. He has to bus people in to vote in straw polls and pay college students to run fair booths and put up signs. He's obviously trying to buy himself an election. Problem is, what's he going to do if he wins the presidency? Write a check for $9 trillion? I didn't think so.

John McCain has not run a financially smart campaign. Using the 3Q numbers, the MSM has tried to paint the picture that Ron Paul is creeping up McCains heels, when in reality, Ron Paul passed him three months ago. McCain's campaign and fundraising are going south and Ron Paul's is gaining momentum. McCain is hurting so much, that he's probably going to take public financing to keep his campaign afloat. So, if a guy can't be financially responsible with his own campaign, how can he be expected to fix the financial woes of the country?

Huckabee may be a decent speaker, throwing out anecdotes and catchy one-liners, but when it comes to substance and support, the numbers just aren't there. Even after his second place showing in Ames, he managed to raise just $1.034 million in three months. In contrast, Ron Paul raised $1.2 million in the last week of the third quarter. So as for Huckabee, stick a fork in him ...

So, other than Ron Paul, the only two candidates who have run fiscally smart and successful campaigns thus far are Giuliani and Thompson. They do have more money than Paul, so now the question for them is, what would they do to get spending under control, improve the economy for the poor and middle class, and get our national debt under control?

Giuliani is the most gung-ho neo-con of the bunch. He does not believe in national defense, he believes in national OFFENSE. In other words, we must spare no expense to fight terrorism around the world. He wants to keep funding the Iraq War, he's itching to strike at Iran, and he wants to show the world that he's a tough guy when it comes to terrorism. Never mind that this type of interventionist foreign policy would promote more terrorism and incite more hatred for Americans than ever before. That aside, Guiliani is apparently not aware that WARS ARE EXPENSIVE!!! The price tag on the Iraq War is going to reach $1 trillion next year. Four more years of the "War on Terror" will cost trillions of dollars, not to mention the cost in lives. Does he understand that more American soldiers have died in the Iraq War than were killed on 9/11? Guiliani clearly does not care about our economy. He does not care about the debt. He does not care about your children. The only thing he does care about, is power.

Finally, we have good ol' Fred Thompson. The only reason he has so much money to campaign with is because he's NOT CAMPAIGNING!!! He has shown the enthusiasm of a rock. He avoids public appearances like the plague. He has to ask people to applaud him. He's trying to coast into the elections on name recognition alone. On the rare occasion when he does speak, he shows that he doesn't have a clue. He is completely out of touch with the American people. Entertainers often are. In the ONE debate he has appeared in thus far, he was asked the following question:

"In a recent poll by the Wall Street Journal and NBC News, two-thirds of the American people said that we are either in a recession or headed toward one. Do you agree with that?"

His response?

"I think there is no reason to believe that we're headed for a recession. We're enjoying 22 quarters of successive economic growth that started 2001 and then further in 2003 with the tax cuts that we put in place. We're enjoying low inflation. We're enjoying low unemployment. The stock market seems to be doing pretty well. I see no reason to believe we're headed for an economic downturn. I think if you look at the short term, it's rosy. I think if you look at a 10-year projection, it's rosy."

So, apparently 2/3 of Americans are worrying for nothing. Never mind that the housing market has tanked, college tuition and health care costs are skyrocketing, and the dollar is at an all time low. The only candidate who understands this is Ron Paul. This was his response to that question:

"Today, this country is in the middle of a recession for a lot of people. Michigan knows about it. Poor people know about it. The middle class knows about it. Wall Street doesn't know about it. Washington, D.C., doesn't know about it."

People like Thompson and Guiliani and Romney just don't get it. They are out of touch with the American public. They promise to cut taxes, yet somehow they want to keep funding wars and reduce the national debt. Their fuzzy math just doesn't add up.

Finally, let's look at Ron Paul's campaign numbers and spending philosophy. First, only Brownback and Paul have accumulated $0 debt. I guess they know how to pay their bills on time. Paul was the only candidate among the top contendars who raised more money in the third quarter than in the second ... 114% more!!! He spends each dollar carefully, like it's his own. He doesn't have to pay for buses to shuttle in supporters for straw polls. His volunteers spend lot of money out of their own pocket to campaign for him. Ron Paul is an expert on monetary policy. He serves on the House Banking Committee. He has taken on Fed Chairman Bernanke and called him out on the Fed's immoral practices. He's also the only candidate who understands that the best way to get our economy in order is to stop fighting wars, make serious cuts in government spending, and respect the Constitution.

So, I ask my question again. Who do YOU trust to pay down the national debt???

RonPaulHQ in the Washington Post

Last week a Washington Post Reporter came to a Ron Paul debate watching party to see what Ron Paul supporters were like. There is a video blog that goes with the article as well, so make sure to check it out. The article is here. Sorry we didn't invite more people - we got the call for this only a day prior, and had to scramble to put it together, and could only have a small crowd. There's a reference to the article on the front page!

Second Newspaper Ad

Linda from our meetup group cranked out another excellent ad that emphasizes Dr Paul's strength when it comes to national defense. The folks at OperationNH are working on getting it into the papers. I'm a 16 year Air Force Veteran, and I am not alone in supporting Dr Paul - check out the Military for Paul site.

Ron Paul Newspaper Ad Coming!

Ron Paul definitely has strong grassroots support! A suggestion from a meetup member got the ball rolling to come up with a newspaper ad prior to the Oct 12th deadline for switching parties. After contacting some other meetup groups, and , we finalized plans to go forward with an ad in the Concord Monitor. Linda from our meetup came up with some design ideas, which were bounced around, and finalized. A chip-in went up to fund the ads, and within hours, not only was there enough for the Concord Monitor, but there was enough for several other papers as well! We are working to get it in as many papers as possible by Oct 12th, reminding people of the deadline. Thanks to the Americans United for Freedom PAC (a grassroots organization) for helping us get it funded and submitted!!!

UPDATE: Here's the schedule

Rules have NOT changed in NH

UPDATE: Gambling911 has posted a response to my article. Let me back up to say that I appreciate all the great articles that they have done on Dr Paul. But I just know that their article has given a lot of people the impression that independents won't be able to vote in NH, and that just isn't the case. Yes, they will have to switch temporarily to Republican, then switch back, but that is how it was last election as well. So I think they and I are arguing over semantics. FYI, I would much rather have the primaries completely open, of course. Here's what it says on the Secretary of State's page in NH:

POLITICAL PARTIES
When registering to vote, you will not be required to register as a member of a political party (republican or democratic) -- you may register as an undeclared voter. If you are registered as an undeclared voter and go to vote in a state primary election, you will be required to choose a party when accepting a ballot. Voters should be aware of their party status before a primary election. If you voted on a party ballot in the 2006 state primary, you are now a registered member of that party unless you filled out a card to return to undeclared status with the supervisors of the checklist.

If you are unsure of your party affiliation, you should contact your town or city clerk, as they have the records of party membership. Or, if you are a party member and wish to change your registration status, initiate such a change by taking one of the following steps:

Presidential Primary
1) Meet with the Supervisors of the Checklist no later than the day prior to the filing period for the Presidential Primary (October 12, 2007). This is the last day you can change your party affiliation before the Presidential Primary.

2) If you are a registered member of a party, you may change your registration at any primary, however, you will not be allowed to vote in that primary. Undeclared voters may declare a party and vote at any primary. The law allows an undeclared voter to declare a party at the polls, vote the ballot of that party, and then change their party affiliation back to undeclared simply by completing the form available from the Supervisors of the Checklist at the polling place

----------------------
Our web site and meetup group has been swamped with e-mails from folks around the country concerned with the changes in the voting rules in NH. This is frustrating since the rules HAVE NOT CHANGED in NH. So all these e-mails are just taking away our precious time from what needs to be done. This all got started by an article on gambling911. It makes allegations of voting rules changes across the country that are designed to keep Ron Paul from getting the primary nomination. Now some of the allegations may be true in other states, I'm not familiar with their history. But here in NH the rules have not changed. We were a closed primary before, and are still a closed primary. Here's what the gambling911 article said about NH:

Many states, in an effort to shut out Ron Paul are now closing their primaries. That means that only Republicans can vote in the Presidential primaries for a Republican candidate. Many states are doing this quickly and quietly and giving people very little time to learn about the new rules. For example, New Hampshire decided only a week ago that you will now have to change your party affiliation by October 12, 2007 or it will be too late to do so. New Hampshire also has a closed primary and only Republicans and possibly Independents will be allowed to vote for Ron Paul.

So the first error is that we have changed from an open to a closed primary. We were always a closed primary (must register as a Republican to vote in the primary). It is true that the date got announced only recently, but that is a function of the primary date being moved up due to other states trying to get an early primary. The other major error is that it says "possibly Independents" will not be able to vote for Ron Paul. This is not true - independents can show up the day of the primary and change to Republican and vote (and change back after the vote). The Oct 12 deadline ONLY AFFECTS PEOPLE THAT ARE CURRENTLY REGISTERED AS DEMOCRATS. And in NH, since independents can vote in either primary, most folks are independents (around 43%).

Only 26% of registered voters in NH are Democrats. It's possible we could win some of this 26% over (and have already), but we are more likely to get independent and Republican voters than the registered democrats. And we will have up until the day of the primary to do that. By all means, spread the word to your Democrat friends to switch parties to vote for Ron Paul.

Positive ABC News Coverage

ABC Nightly News provided some very good coverage of today's big news...

Paul Raises Over $5,000,000 in Q3 (Updated!)

This just in ... the Ron Paul campaign has just announced raising $5.08 million in the third quarter!!! In addition, thanks to his fiscal conservatism (the same you'd get in a Paul presidency), he still has money left over from the first two quarters. His total cash on hand now stands strong at $5.3 million. This has far exceeded the recent speculation that he had raised about $3.5 million. I'll write more as the news stories come in...

UPDATE #1

The news stories are coming in faster than I can read them. One interesting article that came in is that Ron Paul has apparently raised 5 TIMES as much as supposed contender Mike Huckabee. Huckabee is expected to announce raising a mere $1 million in the third quarter, however, those figures have yet to be officially announced.

Here's a selection of articles thus far. As I'm writing this more are coming in from ABC News and the Washington Post... This is a good day.

To win

Kent Snyder, Chairman for the Ron Paul campaign just released the following. I think it's so important that it's worth repeating...
***********************************************************

Our goal is to win.

We have 96 days, maybe less.

We have one shot.

*****

Yesterday afternoon, the Ron Paul 2008 staff came together to hear that message. I shared it with them then. I share it with you now.

Our goal is to win. Ron Paul wins the Republican nomination. Ron Paul becomes our next president.

We have 96 days, maybe less. The first contest will be January 5 in Wyoming. But Iowa will change its date to be earlier than Wyoming and New Hampshire will do the same. Michigan will hold its primary on January 15. South Carolina and Nevada are set for January 19, followed by Florida on January 29.

We have one shot. The time is right for this Ron Paul Revolution; there are many reasons why. But this opportunity we now hold in our hands will never come again.

The future of our nation lies with us, and with the people who will soon join this freedom movement.

We have the answer: freedom. We have the man: Ron Paul. We have each other.

We have what we need to win.

Something Special is Happening

I am finally recovering from a whirlwind of excitement this weekend. This campaign seems to just get stronger and stronger every day. The weekend started with the big rally on Saturday morning. Some folks drove all the way from Pittsburgh to attend the rally, sell shirts, and do the walk, and gave a nice account of their trip. The rally was attended by an estimated 500-800 people, probably the largest crowd that has been drawn in NH (according to MSNBC who said the crowd was larger than other candidates could hope to draw!)

There is a video of the rally in 5 parts, including the "Ballad of Ron Paul, sung by his family". Dr Paul starts speaking in Part 2. Part 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. Part 5 is a good thing to watch as it addresses how the campaign is doing, and puts some perspective on this ongoing freedom movement. It's very exciting to hear him say, "the cause of liberty is on the verge of an explosion"! Also he explained that major movements are generally caused by 3% of the people understanding, and we are part of that 3%, and we can lead the way!!! "I am not a prophet. I don't know what's happening. I've been talking this way for 30 years, but something special is happening." Here's a video that is not as good as the above, but shows the crowd.

After the rally ended, we went and did the literature drops. Approximately 300-400 people got in line to get packages of 125 houses in Concord, Nashua, and Manchester. About 100 packets were given out to teams of 3, and people spent all afternoon going from door to door handing out information on Ron Paul. I had done these a month ago, and what a difference a month has made! Reaction has gone from most people not having heard of him, to people having a favorable impression, and interested in knowing more. People have noticed the yard signs and sign waves, heard him in the debates, heard the commercials on the radio, heard the radio interviews, etc. We need to capitalize on this growing awareness to get people on board the freedom movement.

The Paul family (about 27 people), piled into cars, and went door to door as well. The national campaign manager's wife also came along, and fervently knocked on doors! It was great to see young Paul grandchildren knocking on doors and saying "vote for my Grandpa" (see the photo)! One of the first doors the Paul family knocked on Sunday afternoon (a second day of canvassing) can be seen in this video. The gentlemen said he really liked Dr Paul and would probably vote for him! He was certainly impressed that the Paul family would knock on his door. More photos of the Paul's walking here.

Dr Paul meanwhile spoke at a couple of college campuses, including Dartmouth Medical school. The response was overwhelmingly positive with students skipping the football game to come see him. Dr Paul also spoke to a group of homeschoolers highlighting the need for strong parental involvement, and the power of individual responsibility in education (video here). You could see people who had never met Dr Paul get excited by his message of liberty and adherence to the Constitution. Photos here.

While all this was going on, the rest of America was donating about $10,000 per hour, to donate $1,200,000 in only 6 days! And Ron Paul supporters also donated food and money to NH food banks at the rally (details on results coming).

Given all this enthusiasm and excitement, I think USAdaily has it right: "Paul activists believe that if he wins the nomination he may be re-create a Republican landslide like Ronald Reagan did in the 80s. For the first time in a generation, Republicans have a presidential primary that has not been decided before it started. GOP frontrunners should proceed with caution because if Ron Paul wins New Hampshire, the nomination will likely follow."

But it's going to take a large amount of effort from us to make this happen!! Sign up for your local meetup groups. NH residents - do lit drops as much as possible. For those outside of NH, stay tuned for a mail NH campaign sponsored by RonPaulHQ.
