Creeping progress

The new Zogby Poll released yesterday puts Ron Paul in fifth place overall with Republican voters (at 3%)--behind the guy who tried to stop body recovery at Ground Zero (27%), the guy who wrote the law to handicap political challengers (13%), the undecided guy who thinks the only legitimate Iraq debate is "how to win" (9%), and the guy who said once, without a hint of irony, "I'm pro-choice. My opponent is multiple choice" (9%). It's a real bumper crop this year, ain't it?

Seriously, as the numbers keep coming out (and shifting) the point is only getting hammered home: if most of the voters knew much about the frontrunners, they wouldn't be supporting them. These guys are running on slick presentation and sound bytes, and because there's so little underpinning, there's not much for a constituency to hold onto--that is, not much to hold on to a constituency. With 28% undecided (even in a preference, let alone a decision), and so much of the vote clearly blowing in the wind (Thompson gets 9% for just floating the notion?), there's a real opening here to win Paul converts just by getting the message around.

I saw an ABC/ poll from Feb. that stated 70 % of NH residents have never heard of Dr. Paul. He must start his campaign in earnest. He is such an honest man, he seems to want to do his job as cong'man for his TX cont' But if he wants to be Pres. He has got to get it in gear, high gear now. I'm from Bama and have no idea about pricing in your area. How much would an older large home on a fairly active road or street, cost to rent, per month in Manchester. It is your largest city and can be reached fairly quickly each night from other areas of your state, except maybe your north country. I'm thinking he can open a campaign HQ and put beds in the bedrooms and He and his assistants can stay there at night while campaigning in NH to save money on Motel bills.(They say he can make funds go a long way in a campaign and we are probably going to need to be frugal in most areas) Several bunkbeds can be placed in two bedrooms so the out of state volunteers (probably youth) will have a place to sleep also. Phone banks can be set up in the living room & den. I think he needs to do this in Des Moines, and Columbia, SC also. He needs a RV (rolling campaign ad) for both IA & SC because you cannot get back to the HQ set up with beds from some of these remote locations (150-200 miles away) The RVs have showers and everything where he can be comfortable. If you notice he travels lite, no large "posse" with him. So he could do it with medium sized RVs in IA & SC. He might could get his grandkids to take turns being his RV driver. He can use a sedan in your state.
I'm a numbers guy. I look at population maps and can figure down to the minute that a candidate needs to stay in a location(county-City) or not to even waste time in an under populated area, also down to the penny how much money needs to be spent on ads all on % of population. Of course $ for ads have to be raised. Now the candidate can meet the time requred if he puts forth the effort to win. I know you guys don't know me and this may seem odd or something, me going into all this, however I want Dr. Paul to win and I think you do too !!! Your state is ideal for what you have done for many years. "Have a major role in picking our Pres." You tried to tell the nation in '92 Clinton wasn't the right one and in '00 Bush wasn't. The nation didn't listen and we have wasted 16 yrs of our lives on "failed Pres." and dangerous deficits!!! Anyway your state is small enough that the citizens can meet every candidate that tries to win, if that citizen makes the effort to meet them. I also understand your state should be receptive to Dr. Paul's message of smaller less intrusive gov't. Now the powers that be have front loaded the system and are taking away almost any chaunch for the little guy to break thru in NH and build a winning race over a length of time. We've got to build a winner now.
Back to Dr. Pauls campaign If he will set up his campaign on a week by week schedule, like say first week of the month in Iowa, 2nd week NH, third weeek SC, 4th & 5th weeks primary States set for Feb.5, 2008. My figures are set up for a 600 hour campaign in each early state (IA, NH & SC). 600 hrs are 50-12Hr campaign days or 20-15hr + 25-12hr days (45 days total)or the candidate can do other schedules, but it is doable if they get started now. That's 135 to 150 days in NH, IA & SC. The main thing they need to do is spend the time allotted for each county and larger city to maximize his vote totals. I already have the time tables set up for NH & IA and am working on SC. Would be glad to send copies to anyone who might want to see my reasoning, The coordination of each state campaign could be handled by volunteers to save $. He would naturally have to have places to speak. College campus, town hall meeting, rotary clubs, etc, etc. (I understand Obama's coordinater has 200 employees under her alone) As he gets going his poll numbers should rise. We have to use ALL the local media we can. The national media isn't going to be kind to Dr. Paul, however we can use local media and paid advertisements and get around them. I hope you can agree with what I have suggested about getting the campaign in HIGH gear and targeting IA, NH & SC along with Feb.5 states. I plan to pass this along to the campaign. So you guys keep requesting him to get started in NH. CARPE DIEM

I'm with you. Not being a part of the official campaign, I can't really speak to what they're up to--although I do wish it were more apparent. Given the insanity of campaign finance law, it's tough for smaller campaigns to work with grassroots supporters like us--so we've decided to worry about what we *can* do, which is lay the groundwork for the kind of individual support the campaign's going to need. Whether it happens in NH or Alabama, if we can get the ball rolling--get him invited to speak at events, or at privately organized fundraisers--the campaign will respond and benefit. Good luck to you down there, and please hang around here and put in your 2 cents--we're NH-focused, but we've got our eyes on the big picture.

The quote you attributed to Romney ("I'm pro-choice; my opponent is multiple choice") is actually Senator Kennedy in a debate with Romney.

Romney earnd his title Multiple Mitt from being on so many sides of so many issues. Just like him joining the NRA RIGHT BEFORE HE ANNOUNCED for prez...and claiming to be a "life-long hunter"...then admitting he'd only hunted twice.
